Omsk is a nice city for living and working

A unique architectural appearance of the city of Omsk is primarily based on a successful selection of the place on the junction of the calm river Om and free Irtysh, and the city's originality and uniqueness are determined by buildings erected in different periods, many of which have become architectural monuments.

Stylish picture of architectural Omsk is versatile one. It includes the pretentious baroque manner the sample of which is the building of Omsk Academic Drama Theatre, and moderateness of classicism which is demonstrated by the central part of Siberian Cadet Military School.

Lyubinsky Avenue formed in the year 1905 possesses an attractive architectural originality. The leading place in the complex of its buildings belongs to Moscow trading rows (architect O.Dessin) where different Russian manufacturing partnerships including P.Ryabushinsky, S.Morozov, Nosov brothers located their goods for wholesale.

Detached houses constructed of red bricks are especially attractive among old Omsk buildings with lattice gates decorated by forging items, fences, apron consoles over the main entrance.

The Department of Omsk railway amazes by its monumental appearance. The building may be apprehended as a monument to the Great Siberian Route thanks to which at the beginning of the 20th century Omsk became a large commercial and industrial city.

At the beginning of the 1950s an active construction of Karl Marx Avenue was started, which led to modification of the city structure. The old Omsk didnit have an outlet to Irtysh. Backyards, goods stations, warehouses, factories were directed to the river. City planners of the new Omsk posed a task to turn the city around to the river by gardens, embankments and streets. Nowadays Irtysh river is the main landscape axis along which the city develops and grows, and the outlet to the left bank of Irtysh river allowed to improve the architectural and planning structure of the city.

Our city is rich not only in interesting architectural traditions but in cultural values as well. Three specialized exhibition halls, nine museums, eight theatres work in Omsk.

The regional museum of local lore, history and economy founded as early as 1870s by West Siberian Division of Geographic Community is a pride of Omsk inhabitants. The museum exhibits reflect the history of Western Siberia and stages of establishment and development of our city.

Works of Russian and European artists of the past, of modern artists and interesting collections of porcelain and bronze items, products of French, German and Chinese factories are gathered in the museum of Fine Arts. A significant place is assigned in the picture gallery for works of Omsk artists.

98 municipal cultural institutions and establishments function on the territory of the city of Omsk. In Omsk there were held many festival and contest projects which become traditional ones: exhibition-contest “My city. Omsk gate 290-300”, city festival of amateur collectives “Theatrical spring”, International civil rights protection film festival “Stalker”, festival of documentary films “Meetings in Siberia”, festival of modern authors' songs, festival “Fashion formula” and others.

Recent year club entertainment activity is being developed in Omsk, large modern night clubs of different formats function in the city, where visitors are offered different entertainment programs and popular music.

Omsk inhabitants and guests of our city always have possibility to lead a full active cultural life, being well informed about modern tendencies and trends in music, art, fashion.

Rich historic background, versatile architectural, handicraft, cultural traditions, wide possibilities for fruitful activity and different rest, atmosphere of good will and hospitality created by Omks inhabitants allow us to say that Omsk is a city which is comfortable for living and working.
